When I was first working with Mamacita, my spirit guide, she told me to purchase a Silver Bullet travel trailer and go travel around the country. I was stunned and confused at this advice because I don’t particularly like to travel…at least not that kind of travel. I prefer to go somewhere and stay put for two weeks, get to know the locals, walk everywhere and relax. The thought of traveling around, a day here, a couple of days there, sounded like my version of hell.
After a few days of angst I finally said “NO”. I then asked Mamacita what on earth she was thinking and why she would tell me to do something that was so revolting to me. Mamacita in her infinite wisdom told me that she wanted me to learn how to say NO. That it didn’t matter who told me to do something, Jesus, Buddha, the angels or her, if it wasn’t right for me I could say NO! This was huge for me, and I knew that if she had just told me I could do this it wouldn’t have had the same impact. I needed to go through that trial to really assimilate the lesson.
When you’re hearing the wisdom of your Spirit Guides it is:
- Clear
- It resonates with your Truth
- It speaks to your heart instead of your ego
- It may challenge you
- It feels right
- And you can say NO if it doesn’t fit for you
If the guidance does not fit these parameters ask again. Check with your guides that you are hearing correctly, sit with them and take the time to understand. If you do not get an answer when you ask, that is an answer. No answer means you need to reflect more and maybe ask again in a few days. Or possibly you aren’t supposed to do anything right now.
Remember to surrender, let go and get out of your own way. The answer will come. Ask yourself, “Is this forced?”. If it feels forced at all take a step back and check again. It’s okay to wait for the truth.
Apparently I didn’t completely learn the lesson because about two years ago I got a message to give one of my rings to a client. A ring I really loved! After some back and forth I gave her the ring but never felt right about it. I was angry and frustrated when I came home and then I realized that an entity I had removed from a client earlier that day had attached to me. It was this nasty entity that told me to give the ring to my client. How did I finally know that? The decision wasn’t right for me, I felt bad and I was mad as hell that I had done this stupid thing. If I had followed my Truth I would never have allowed that nasty entity to influence me like that. I could have said NO and sent the ring later if I was still getting this guidance. Believe me I definitely learned the lesson of saying NO, that fateful day!
Clearing the entity is another story for another day, just please understand that you can always say NO, even to your guides (especially to a nasty entity posing as your guide). Follow your Truth!

Thanks for your love and support in 2012! What an amazing year it was…lots of our friends and family left us, there were enormous energy shifts and if you’re reading this you survived.
If like me the beginning of 2013 has been great, then just know that it will continue this year. Create it now through your thoughts, word and actions. Choose loving thoughts, positive, affirming words and extraordinary actions. Remember to include yourself in the mix…who is your best friend? YOU ARE! If you are saying words to yourself that you wouldn’t say to a friend, your child, an animal or a grocery store clerk then why would you abuse yourself in that way? This is the day, the month and the year that you can choose to recreate your experience and it begins with your thoughts.
Just for fun I decided to share some FAQ’s – frequently asked questions about my practice and Mamacita. Here goes:
Do you (BakeR) remember what Mamacita says in your readings?
–Sometimes I remember snippets of the reading. If I remembered all the readings my head would explode — ewww BakeR brains all over the sidewalk…not pretty!
Do you “read” people when you’re just out walking around or when you meet someone?
—No, never, see above, my brain would explode. And it’s out of integrity, it would be as invasive as me walking into your home uninvited. Be wary of any psychic who “reads” you uninvited. That said, I am an empath and can usually tell how you’re feeling or if someone is going to want a reading. Besides I don’t really want to know what you think of me!
Isn’t it better not to ask questions when I get a reading?
–Not necessarily! If you are looking for very general information then don’t ask any questions. However, if you want guidance on a particular area of your life, then definitely come with questions. Let’s say your relationship is on the rocks, you might ask “What can I do to work this out?” Or “Is this relationship over?” Very often I think I should call Mamacita the Psychic Coach; she is very good at helping you see what needs to be done in a current situation. Or you can ask, “am I on the right _____path?” career, spiritual, life etc.
Can you always contact spirits on the other side?
–About 90% of the time they come through but I can never guarantee that. It’s always up to the spirit, sometimes they are off doing other things. It’s usually helpful for you to be thinking of them, keep a picture out for a few days, and even ask them to come through for you.
Are my family members together in spirit world?
—Sometimes but it’s different in spirit world for everyone. And there don’t seem to be those “needs” whether emotional or physical like we have here in the physical plane. Your Mom and Dad may choose to hang out together or not. If not there isn’t any pain around that choice.
How can you tell that a spirit is stuck (not completely in the light)?
—Most of the time I see them or feel that they are not free. It’s not a horrible place they’re in but it’s not the best place either. They just need a little help crossing over. I have helped hundreds of spirits cross over. It is one of the greatest gifts of my work to see their faces when they go to the light. In most of the cases I have witnessed so far, the spirit that is stuck died traumatically, confused and sometimes in great fear. They don’t understand what happened, where they are going and what will happen when they get there.
My own father was one of the first spirits I helped to cross over, through and with Ann Albers, one of my mentors. At the time I was a fairly new client of Ann. Dad had been stuck for years! He was afraid that God would send him to hell or punish him for what he had done to me, my brothers and others while here in the physical realm. I said, “Dad, if I can forgive you, why do you think God wouldn’t?” He laughed and said, “You always were smarter than me.” Ann and I kept trying to get him to cross over, telling him he was safe but he kept resisting. Finally I said, “Dad I need you to go.” To this day I have no idea why I said those words, but it worked, off he went into the beautiful, radiant light. Ann told me the angels had taken him back to childhood to bask in love and heal.
**There are psychics in Sedona and probably elsewhere who charge additional money to cross over spirits, that is their choice. When I do a reading for you and we find someone who has not crossed over, we will either clear it in that session or I go back in later and help them. It is an honor for me to do this work and this is one way I can give back.
How can you help me clear an issue from a past life?
—If you have an issue in this life time that is holding you back, a challenge that you have worked on in different healing modalities, or a block to your forward movement, often it is actually a past life issue that you came in with. When you ask Mamacita about it, we scan your body to see where you’re holding it, then look back at past lives to determine when, where and what happened. If it’s from a past life, it’s a cellular memory, which is why it won’t usually be in your conscious awareness. After Mamacita determines where it came from she will help you clear it or coach you in how to clear it yourself. Often she wants you to clear the issue because it can be a powerful step in your own growth, learning how to use your gifts and take responsibility for your healing.
Why don’t you take people to the popular vortex sites on your sacred land tours?
—Actually I will take you to a few of the vortex sites if that’s what you really want. I prefer to take you to my own little “private vortex site” for a few reasons. Most of you that I work with are way beyond what the typical tourist is looking for. The vortex sites on the maps are overrun with tourists looking for a quick woowoo experience. (nothing wrong with this, just not my preference) I take you to a quiet, secluded vortex (about a 20 min. hike in) where we do deep work with guided meditation and a reading on the land, finishing higher up the mountain creating and setting intentions. It’s a powerful couple of hours.
Please feel free to ask more questions below in the comment section….I will do my best to answer them whether you want to work with me or another psychic/intuitive.
Just for today, live every minute to the fullest! love and blessings, BakeR

I used to hate Mormons. No, seriously, as the past State Coordinator of the National Organization for Women, Mormons were my nemesis.
I debated them, picketed their temple and even made fun of their beliefs. I was certain that everything I was for they were against, and everything I was against they were for. I knew that all the men were racist bigots and kept their multiple wives locked up at home barefoot and pregnant. And I even met some Mormon men who did treat their wives like that.
In 2003, a few months after my 50th birthday party, a casual friend was passing hateful propaganda about Muslims on email. Propaganda that claimed that all Muslims take a vow to kill us. It went on and on, I’m sure some of you saw it. I wrote this woman and told her that not all Muslims are hateful killers, that indeed she may have held hands with the Muslim couple that were at my birthday party as we sang “Let There Be Peace On Earth”. I told her that this couple are beautiful, fun, peace loving people just like we are. I told her that radical, hateful extremists can be found in almost every religion be they Christian, Muslim, Hindu etc. and every country from France to Russia to Pakistan to the USA. I reminded her that some Christians in this country bombed abortion clinics – sometimes wounding and killing people. She wrote back and apologized saying she had never known any of “them” (Muslims) and that she had believed all the awful diatribe about “them”. Our conversation ended peacefully.
Yet even after that incident, until about a year ago, I would have claimed that Mormons were my nemesis. That indeed I knew that “they” were against everything I believed in and vice versa.
And then I met a beautiful and faithful Mormon woman. A woman who is spiritual, metaphysical, peaceful, who believes that loving service is the top priority in her life’s mission. A woman who goes to drum circles with me, who shares Reiki healing, who helped me pack my house for a big move, a woman who loves movies, crystals, chocolate and her family, who regularly attends temple and has a deep belief in God. A woman who spent hours sending Reiki healing to my dog — who has become one of my best friends. A woman who shattered every myth I held about Mormons, including that they are all Republicans.
And I had to face my fears – my deep seated beliefs about “them”. I had to step up and recognize that when I put anyone in the “them” slot, the different than me slot, I contribute to the separation that causes hatred and violence. When I fail to meet someone and know them as another human being, regardless of their race, creed, religion, gender, sexual orientation, political affiliation or any other differences, I contribute to the imbalance. I contribute to dishonoring another human. And I dishonor myself in the process.
In the many years that I worked seven days a week for women’s rights, for gay rights, for equality for all, I remember the people who met me and said, “You don’t look like one of them”. And yet haven’t I said the same?
When I look at anyone different than me in any way and pass judgment based on those assumptions , I give up my chance to know the real person, to relate to another human being at a deeper level…the level where love exists. For at the core of the majority of humans, I believe there is infinite light, I believe there is powerful love and forgiveness. I believe that most of us are good – that we want peace – that we care about each other. I believe when we take the time to go beyond our judgments, our assumptions and yes our expectations, that we will find another human being who wants the same things we do, who desires love, peace and freedom.
I commit to reach out to “them” the next time. I commit to take the time to learn who “they” are.
And I commit to remember, when I point a finger at someone else there are three pointing back at me!

I can CHOOSE!
My dog Cheyenne chose to leave her physical body on June 11th. I used to say I didn’t know how I would stand it when she left me.
Even in her leaving she is teaching me lessons. Like the river in the picture there are two directions I can go. I can choose grief or I can choose joy. I experienced deep grief the first few days after Cheyenne passed. Then something magical happened.
As I would start to feel the pain Cheyenne would appear – she would laugh at me and tell me I could be sad if I wanted but reminding me that I could CHOOSE to be joyful instead. I can choose to remember all the fun we had hiking , or just sitting looking out over the beauty of Sedona. I can remember how good I felt witnessing her absolute joy as she rolled around in the grass or on the carpet scratching her head and snorting with pleasure. I can replay the short film in my head of her chasing a rabbit – always giving up just before catching one. I can feel the warmth of her against me in the frigid night when we camped at Monument Valley. I can watch her splash and play in Oak Creek,or run up Castle Rock. I can celebrate her unconditional love, her peace, her complete absorption in the moment. I can see those deep brown eyes as they demanded a treat after dinner. I remember her dignity and tolerance as smaller dogs would bark and nip at her when she looked at me as if to say, “Mom, what’s their problem?” I can remember how she met me at the door every day tail wagging, grinning ear to ear, dancing around, so happy to see me no matter what….
Or I can CHOOSE grief!
I always have a choice. This has been a quiet revelation for me that I can CHOOSE to be happy in the wake of her death. In the past I would have chosen to wallow in my grief. Now I feel the grief and then it’s as if I watch it drift away, followed quickly with joy that I got to share my life with this beautiful animal friend.
I still believe in honoring our emotions. I believe that if we don’t honor our emotions we generally stuff them in our bodies where they cause more havoc. I believe that I can let them come up, feel them and then watch them gently drift away.
And I believe that I can CHOOSE whether to stay in that place of grief or CHOOSE differently.
I’m choosing to:
See the grief
Feel the grief
Let it drift away
CHOOSE JOY!
If you need help dealing with your choices I am always available for coaching…you can reach me at 602.999.2493 or email me BakeR@ThePsychiccoach.net.

The worst symptom of the nasty bronchitis I just lived through was a headache that plagued me for six days. I tried everything to relieve the pain, copious amounts of Advil and allergy tablets, hot compresses, cold compresses you name it. I even tried my husband’s mantra when he’s in pain: “I am not my body. I am free. I am as God created me.”
The mantra worked temporarily but soon the headache would come back with a vengeance. A couple of nights the pain on the left side of my face was so intense I seriously considered lopping off that side of my face. Normally sleep would bring relief from even my worst headaches, not this time!
On the sixth day the universe sent me this amazing article “Burning Man” by Jay Kirk in GQ Magazine. The article describes the horrific burns and subsequent pain suffered by First Lieutenant Sam Brown after his Humvee blew up in Afghanistan. Lt Brown’s body overproduced scar tissue, scar tissue that had to be stretched and ripped to restore his range of motion. To say he was in a living, burning hell would be a gross understatement.
Lt. Brown was invited to participate in a test of a Virtual Realty game that was proving to be effective in significantly reducing pain. While the physical therapists worked on the scar tissue, Lt. Brown escaped into the Virtual Reality game. Afterward he stated that his observed pain had only been a level 6, pain that was normally on a 9-10 level. Also, the therapists told him they had gotten more range of motion than previously.
After reading the article I decided to create my own “VR game”. I imagined myself transported to my favorite island in the world, Santorini. I felt the warm sun on my body, the tiny, smooth black pebbles under my blanket. The scent of delicious grilled fish mingled with the salty ocean air and the seagulls screeched overhead searching for a tidbit left behind. The intense turquoise water shimmered and sparkled and I delighted in the laughter of children gleefully splashing each other at the water’s edge. I totally immersed myself in my “VR game”, experiencing it with every sense, enjoying all the details…AND THE PAIN WAS GONE! Not diminished, completely GONE!
As long as I gave attention to the pain – rubbing my head, swallowing Advil, thinking about how to get rid of it, the pain continued to grow. Hunter Thompson the creator of the Virtual Reality game observed that time spent thinking about pain is an inextricable contributor to actual pain. How giving pain attention meant giving pain meaning, and how meaning amplified the experience of pain. Yep, I can attest to that, as soon as I put my energy, attention and thoughts elsewhere the pain was gone.
In “Conversations With God”, Neale Donald Walsh tells us the laws are very simple: Thought is creative. Fear (or pain) attracts like energy. Can you see how I was creating more pain, with my creative thoughts? Do you understand that thinking about pain attracts more pain? And how relief could come from immersing my self in the beauty of Santorini?
I’m sure that you’ve experienced this at some point in your life. A very simple example often happens to me while out hiking. I am completely engrossed in the beauty of the red rocks, clear blue sky above, fresh air, warm sun…there is almost nowhere I am happier! Yet often I come home to find a nasty scratch on a leg or arm with no idea where it came from, even when I try to remember. I call that my meditative hiking state of mind. It’s extremely effective!
Healing Pain
Use the thought of peace and the realization of a Perfect Presence; know that in this Presence there is no tension, there is no struggle, there is no fear, there is no sense of conflict. Know this until there cmoes to your own consciousness a deep, calm sense of peace and ease, and until every thought of pain is eliminated. -Ernest Holmes, The Science of Mind
The next time you are facing pain:
- Create a new scene in your mind using all of your senses
- Imagine all the details of your beautiful new world
- Remember to passionately create the scene, fully immerse yourself
- Repeat if necessary, continue to turn away from the pain, do not give it attention
Why not give it a shot? The pain hurts! Imagining yourself on a beautiful, exotic tropical island, or skiing on perfect powdery snow can at the least take you away momentarily. You might be delighted to recognize the absence of pain as a big grin spreads across your face.
All thoughts are creative, use them wisely!

Bring your questions for Mamacita. We will end around Noon with a short meditation.

Steadily Cheyenne (my dog) and I climbed the Soldiers Pass Trail, we rounded the corner and there were the Seven Sacred Pools. On this hot, dusty day there was no water in the pools. I sat and meditated for awhile, Cheyenne made friends and shared treats with a tiny dog named Zippy and rested in the shade of a scrub pine. As we headed back down the trail we encountered two women who had some questions. The louder of the two demanded to know how far the sacred pools were. I assured her the sacred pools were just around the next corner. She asked if there was water in the pools.
“Not this time of year”, I replied.
“Are you serious? I can’t believe we hiked all this way and there’s no water. Crap, they could have told us.”
“Who could have told you?”
“The people who suggested this trail, they could have told us there was no water in the pools.”
They stomped off to go see the “dry sacred pools”.
As I walked away I had to laugh, I wanted to turn back and say something sarcastic like, “Gee I’m sorry you haven’t seen any beauty today.” But instead I practiced sending loving energy. All around these two women were some of the most incredible, majestic red rock mountains, canyons and intense blue sky. About 1/8 of a mile away they would have hiked past Devil’s Sink Hole, a huge naturally formed sink hole. They had hiked from Jordan Road which meant they had been on several of the best trails in Sedona! What I realized was in their search for the “Seven Sacred Pools” they had likely missed the sacredness on their journey.
It reminded me of the weekend I went to a Women’s Spiritual Retreat outside of Tucson. On Saturday morning the leader told us to go out on the land and find our sacred spot. There we were to draw a circle to sit within and meditate. Prior to this I had a phone call from a client. He was very upset, demanding to know what I was doing to sell his home, what was my plan and where was I anyway. One of my better clients, we had become friends as well as business associates. He had never treated me this way and I was shocked, embarrassed, hurt and frustrated. I contemplated returning home early from the retreat. I chose to do my meditation and then decide if I would go home.
As I walked the land looking for my “sacred spot” I was lost in worry about my client. The conversation played over and over in my head, fretting and fuming I stomped along. Suddenly I heard the unmistakable sound of a rattlesnake. Similar to the sound of a locust, once you’ve heard a mad rattler you recognize the difference. I stopped in my tracks and looked around to determine its location. There about one foot in front of me, at the base of a large Saguaro was a coiled rattler, but she was the strangest looking rattler I’ve ever seen. Pale peach in color with light diamonds on her back she was an Albino, pretty rare even in rattlesnake country. I’m not afraid of snakes and rattlers are not particularly aggressive, so I backed up a step or two and asked her if she had a message for me. “BE HERE NOW!” ‘Be here now’?, I questioned. And then I got it. Wrapped up in my worry over the client, I was mentally and emotionally back in Scottsdale. My body may have been in the desert but my mind and heart were not.
The sacred experience I was searching for had been preempted by my worry and concern. Had I taken one more unaware step I would have most likely been struck by the rattlesnake. I thanked the Albino rattlesnake for her wisdom, came back into my body and moved on to find my sacred spot by the creek. For the rest of the weekend I practiced “Being here now”, enjoying the sacred circle, community meals, sweat lodge, beautiful music and songs, and my own deep communion with Spirit.
I hold the lesson of the rattlesnake in very high regard and think of her often when I succumb to worry or frustration.
- How much time do you waste on worry?
- How much time do you waste on making up negative stories?
- Have there been times you missed the sacred moment because your focus was elsewhere?
- What are sacred moments for you?
- How can you have more sacred moments?
- What can you use to remind you to be here now?
- If only for today, how can you BE HERE NOW?
- I invite you to gift yourself at least one sacred moment or minute or hour per day. YOU DESERVE IT! Spirit lives to gift you sacred moments every day!

Today I found myself worrying about compensation. Actually my ego self was worried. Am I enough – will I make enough? Was the reading good – good enough?
My ego self says, “show me the money”, as if that is the only way to measure my self worth. My spiritual self is always certain that indeed I am enough – I AM good enough. I am always fully supported. My ego needs the compliments and glowing emails that clients send. My ego is fear based it needs to be fed. My spiritual self feels the deep connection in the moment and knows that the true gift is leading a client to understanding, helping them hear the Truth, or maybe connect with a loved one on the other side. My spiritual self is Love.
While I was in worry, all I could see was more fear. When Mamacita stepped in and slapped me around a little I was able to turn my self to the Truth, to see the light and to focus on my good. As I refocused on my service, 0n my joy in being of service and why I am really here, the phone rang – a client booking a session for tomorrow – of course!
Keeping my focus on gratitude and being of service empowers me and ultimately you. As I step into grace it radiates out and touches all those around me. When you step into grace, into gratitude it radiates out and touches all those around you!
Are you out of touch with your Truth? Out of balance? How much time do you spend in fear or worry?
How much time do you spend in gratitude, service or joy?
Do you think to be grateful for all you are?
Are you grateful for your body? For the utensils that allow you to eat? For the chair you sit in? For a computer that workd with no expectation of thanks?
Take a moment now to sit in gratitude – find at least five things that you don’t normally think to be grateful for:
- Shoes
- The cardinals song
- The men working in the hot sun on the electrical lines down my street
- Healers – especially chiropractors today!
- Can openers
Your Turn:
Make a commitment to yourself to practice gratitude throughout your day…it is the single most important step to changing your life!

Recently I watched an incredible video of the near death experience of Anita Moorjani. Unable to move as a result of the cancer that had ravaged her body for over three years, doctors at the hospital that morning had given Anita just hours to live She crossed over and came back. Here’s what this beautiful woman learned:
” Let me explain that there is a difference between ‘being loving’ and ‘being love’. Being loving means giving love to another whether you have any for yourself or not. It means giving what you yourself may or may not even have to give. This type of giving of love can eventually drain you, because we don’t always have a limitless supply. And then we look to the other to replenish our pool of love, and if it is not forthcoming, we stop being loving ourselves, because we are exhausted. Being love, on the other hand, means loving myself unconditionally so that it overflows, and anyone and everyone around me just becomes an automatic recipient of my love. The more I love myself, the more it flows out to others. It almost feels like being a vessel for love to flow through. When I am being love, I don’t need people to behave a certain way in order for them to be a recipient of my love. They are automatically getting my love as a result of me loving myself. So to stop being love, to me, means to stop loving myself. Hence, I will not stop being love on account of another.” –Anita Moorjani
I love her line, “They are automatically getting my love as a result of me loving myself.” That is so true! When you love yourself you automatically love others. When you truly love yourself you have plenty of love to give away. There is an unlimited supply.
When we are giving love from a space in us that is already full – we are not depleted, our well is full, it overflows onto others. First, because we filled the well ourselves, we always know how to replenish it. Second, the love we give away always comes back tenfold. “That’s great, you’re thinking, “but how do I fill myself with love?”
- Know that you and source/god/spirit are the only ones capable of truly filling your love well.
- Give yourself affirmations to work with daily such as? I radiate love which returns to me tenfold. I surround myself with beauty, grace and joy. I am full of energy, vibrant and vivacious! I create new stories for myself, filled with light and love. I love myself! If any negative messages come up when using these affirmations that is your clue that the old tapes you still run need to be erased. Cancel the old message and replace it with your affirmation.
- Nurture yourself – have a spa day, take your creative child out to play, walk in the park, hike a mountain, bake a treat just for you, meditate, watch a beautiful or funny movie.
- Stand up for yourself by having strong boundaries. Say no when you mean no – say yes when you really mean yes. If you’re doing anything from a sense of guilt or obligation instead of joy, you are not standing in your Truth.
- Send yourself an online greeting card – date it for a day in the future, so it’s a complete surprise.
- Give your inner child a new toy – soft and cuddly or something that makes her/him giggle.
- Dangle your toes in water, a creek, lake, pool, lay on your back and watch the clouds go by.
- Create a ritual/ceremony for yourself to honor your wisdom, beauty, breath, toes, nose, emotions _____________ or all of you!
- Write out the ABC’s and choose one positive word for each letter that describes you, i.e. Alert Brilliant Creative….Xerothermic Youthful Zesty
- Give yourself Reiki
- Work with a Spiritual Life Coach to empower you to find that inner love…the love that can never be taken away!
What can you do to love yourself more today?
What will it feel like to have so much love for yourself that it spills over all those around you?
Do you know that you are worthy of this much love? YES YOU ARE!!!
Have a beautiful, love filled life!
Many blessings! BakeR

When I was first working with Mamacita she told me one day that I should get a silver travel trailer and travel around the country. I actually contemplated this for a couple of weeks…what the heck could she be thinking? I don’t even particularly like to travel, at least not that kind of travel. I like to immerse myself in a community, get to know the people, walk the streets, explore, eat local food, stay in one place for a couple of weeks. But travel around from place to place with not only myself but a large dog and cat in a silver bullet? I just wasn’t seeing this possibility.
I relayed this story to another psychic, her reply was, “oh Mamacita is a trickster!” “A trickster?”, I asked. “Why would Mamacita play tricks on me?” I was absolutely shocked that Mamacita would do this to me. My spirit guide would try to trick me. What?? I didn’t understand how she could do that. Couldn’t I trust her above all? What I later realized through counseling with Mamacita was that she wanted me to learn how to discern what MY truth was, no matter who told me to do something. She taught me to discern between my hearts true desire and someone else’s agenda. She taught me to discern between what fit’s my vision and when my ego needed to be stroked or inflated.
This would serve me well in later years when I was asked to work with a client who clearly needed a therapist, not a coach. My ego self was just sure I could help – that I could “save” this woman. Number one rule in my business – I don’t “save” anyone. Spirit works through me to guide people to their own answers, with questions and sometimes wise suggestions. But it’s not me – it’s my higher self – connecting with their higher self. As soon as I fall into the savior trap I know I’m in ego and it’s time to back away! This then was another clear indication of a trickster moment, only this time the trickster was my ego. Another test, thankfully I passed.
Where or when in your life do you get fooled by your ego self? When do you feel challenged to stand in your Truth?
Often when I make a decision coming from ego, it is fraught with fear…fear is the root cause, and consequently it will usually end badly one way or another. Recently I allowed a woman who called late morning on a Sunday to make an appointment for that afternoon because she was only in town for the day from Phoenix. This clearly does not fit my vision as I have chosen NOT to work on Sundays. Instead of asking the proper questions my ego asked, What if she decides to become a coaching client and wants to work with me long term? Wouldn’t it behoove me to work with her just this one Sunday? So I rearranged my day, sent my husband away, put the animals in their respective rooms and waited for the client. Ten minutes before she was scheduled to show up the phone rang, she was canceling!
When I disrespect myself and my vision, I attract people who disrespect me. This decision clearly came from fear, I’m building a new business, therefore sometimes I think I must do anything and everything to make that happen, even when it goes against my truth/my vision. It may seem like a small waver to work on a Sunday and sometimes it is justifiable if I’m working with a client who respects me and my time. But I knew almost immediately that this wasn’t going to happen. Everything about it felt forced!
Here are some questions to ask yourself when you are trying to make a decision:
- Does this serve my higher purpose?
- Does this fit my vision? (if you don’t have a vision, that may be the first step)
- Am I coming from heart or from ego?
- Will this bring me joy? Peace? Satisfaction?
- Does it serve the community, my clients, the world?
- Am I forcing it?
Mamacita would tell you to go within and ask – that you and only you have the answer. Trust your inner knowing. If your decision doesn’t “feel” right, if you feel like you’re forcing it, then you probably need to step back. Stop, take a look at your answers above and really check in with your heart self to find the truth.
Your true answer is found within!

The beginning of a new year seems to give us a new lease on life. We get to start anew, to release anything that didn’t work last year and move forward.
In view of that I’m going to ask you to engage your creative side. To look at things in a different light, to think of color and sound and objects differently. To let go of the analytical and just go with your creativity and intuition.
Don’t spend a lot of time thinking about the questions, just let your unique answer float in from the ethers, engage your inner child and create.
What color is the letter S?
What does turquoise sound like?
If you were an animal what animal would you be?
What does an eagle think as it soars in the air?
What does it feel like to be a tree?
If you were a car what kind of car would you be?
What time is it on Saturn?
What does platinum feel like?
How old is magenta?
If you were a road where would you go?
Where were you in 1844? (no analyzing just go with it, let it flow)
What does capybara taste like?
If you were going to get a tattoo (okay it can be removed the next day) what would it be?
Where would you put the tattoo? (remember it can be gone the next day)
How much can you possibly love?
What does your brain feel like?
Now that your creative juices are flowing try these on:
What was the most fun you had in 2010?
When did you feel most inspired in 2010?
What was the best meal you ate in 2010? Where?
What was the best gift you gave to another being? What was the best gift you received?
What did you do, create, or become in 2010 that you are most proud of?
If you had one word to sum up 2010 what would that word be? Would you like the word to be different, the same or better for 2011?
Is there something you wanted to accomplish in 2010 that you could dust off and try again?
What do you want to create this year?
What could you add or subtract that would make this year soar?
How can you be healthier this year? Mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually?
You have all the time you need, all the money and all the creativity, so what’s stopping you from creating the life you truly desire? If you think you don’t, call me I’ll help you figure it out.
The best meal I ate in 2010 was in a little restaurant in Key West FL. André and I went there for a mini honeymoon. I have no idea what I ate, but I remember the beautiful orchids on the table, the huge Andy Warhol lithographs, the intimate quiet setting, and looking into those beautiful eyes across the table. The food was great too, but for me it’s all about the beauty of my surroundings. It’s different for all of us, what speaks to me doesn’t necessarily speak to you. That’s why we all have to find our own unique niche. You have to listen to the music and read the books that feed your soul, eat the food that nourishes your body and pray to your own God.
You must find that one particular thing that you were meant to do, and when you do, pursue it with zest. If you were meant to paint, or write, or drive a bus; and you don’t then you deprive the rest of us of your talent, your gifts.
A few years back I was flying out of Phoenix airport at 6AM, which is not a pretty time of day for me. I left my car in long term parking and got on the Roadrunner bus. The bus driver was so happy, but not in an annoying way, he was just lovingly joyous. As he took off he announced that our cars were parked in the green parking lot, section B (or wherever it was). He announced it again a few minutes later and reminded us that we may want to write it down. Wow, write it down, why didn’t I ever think of that before? He then announced it one more time before dropping us at our terminal. I was so impressed that he not only had fun driving a bus at 6AM, but he was determined to make our lives a little easier. Such a simple thing, done so caringly. It made my day! If I can make someone’s day a little better, what better gift could I give?
I believe I’ll just make that one of my intentions this year…so let me know if I can make your day a little better. And remember to thank the bus driver, the car wash attendant, the garbage collector, the President (honestly can you imagine having that job?), your accountant….whoever makes your life a little easier.
Happy Creative New Year!
