May You Succumb to the Danger of Growth.
– John O’Donohue
As the year ends, we often look back and take stock of what we have or have not accomplished. What items did we cross off the “to-do” list? What items got moved ahead to next year’s list? What items did we decide were unworthy of our attention and we threw them on the Samhain fire?
It may seem early to be talking of growth when we’re still caught up in the season of light, but I ask you to slow down for a moment and consider gifting yourself the “Danger of Growth”. Growth can take on any form you choose – you may be the one who opts to get out more or the one who stays quiet. You may choose the growth of exploring a new spiritual belief or simply being in nature with Spirit’s wondrous delights.
You may choose to grow through fun activities or deep studies, walking the Camino de Santiago, exploring the Amazon Rainforest, or the concrete jungle of New York. What you choose to Be, Do, or Have doesn’t really matter. It is answering the invitation that matters.
What makes your ego perceive Growth as Dangerous? Did you fall one too many times? Are you afraid you won’t get back up this time? Yet haven’t you always?
Think of a time in the past when you succumbed to the Danger of Growth. Was the payoff greater than the risk? Were you happy you did it?
One of my greatest Danger of Growth moments was traveling to Peru to work with Ayahuasquero and Maestro Huachumero healers. If I had listened to my friends and family I would have stopped in my tracks. This is just a sampling of what I heard: “Don’t you know there are poisonous snakes in the jungle?” “Seriously, you’re going to the jungle to take drugs?” “What about malaria?” “It’s a third-world country, you’ll die there!” “What the hell, are you crazy!” and from my partner at the time, “If you go, We. Are. Done.”
Yes, it was scary. But I knew, without a doubt, that I was meant to do this. I had always known, always, that I would work with Shamans. I won’t lie to you the first ceremony was brutal – I wanted to come home. I threw a hissy fit that would make a hangry two-year-old proud. Fortunately, Don Howard gently convinced me to stay, and I am so grateful! Beyond that initiation came the real growth. Once I purged the anger and rage, the insight and wisdom were able to break through. That choice changed my life!
I came home after those twenty-six days and changed my life completely over the next two years. The best choices of my life were made then, and I have built on that foundation to create happiness and fulfillment I could only imagine were possible.
You too have choices to make:
What do you want to be?
What do you want to do?
What do you want to have?
What do you want to be?
Are you in the health industry but have you always wanted to go to NYC and try your skill on Wall Street? You want to be a shark, make big money, and live in a fancy penthouse in the city that never sleeps! What stops you? Write down the reasons you can’t, and then write down the Truth – which is YOU CAN. Write down all the ways that it is possible. Anything is possible, if you are willing to risk, be creative, work hard (yeah, they always leave this step out), risk some more, create some more, and work harder. Once upon a time, I majored in nursing, then that class came when I found out we had to give shots. Shots? Shots involve needles! I HATE needles! I can’t even look at a syringe without panicking. My nursing career was over. Fortunately, many years later I discovered alternative healing – Shamanic Reiki and Spiritual Life coaching. I can now use my gifts – no needles necessary! How can you BE all you want to be?
What do you want to do?
Do you want to sing on The Voice, fly planes, learn Reiki, meditate longer and more often, hike the Grand Canyon, build your own website, paint or write or sculpt, stay home and nest…what do you REALLY want to do? Make a list of at least 25 things you want to do. Choose the top 13. Get to work on making them happen. I would suggest that you choose activities that challenge you to stretch and grow.
I am never going to bungee jump (that thing could break) but I have walked on fire, parasailed, and slept in a remote cave for three nights alone with just water and a few blankets. There may be some limitations to what you can do, if you don’t have a spectacular voice, you may not get chosen to sing on The Voice, but you may be able to share the gift of singing in other ways. There is only one significant difference between those who do and those who don’t do what they want – Belief. We don’t have to convince Spirit that we can do it, we have to convince our tiny little Ego that we can Do It!
What do you want to have?
Do you want fancy cars, multiple homes, and luxurious vacations? Or are you more the cabin in the woods, hiking and meditating, working enough to buy the seeds for your small garden, type of person? Are there specific items you want to have like those stated above or do you seek qualities in your life like joy, peace, creativity, and security? Again, take the time to list out what you want to have this coming year.
When working with qualities I love to do this exercise. First list the top seven qualities that are most important to you. Next, reduce the list to the top six. Then the top five and so on, until you get to your top One quality. You may find that the list changes as you winnow down. For instance, you might have your top three as Love, Peace, and Happiness. Then when you get to Two you realize you forgot Creativity. Now you realize you have to add Creativity, but what will you eliminate? See how that works? My final work surprised me, but then again it didn’t. As it morphed and changed, when I finally got there–and it didn’t take long–I knew it was the perfect word.
What’s my word you ask? FREEDOM
What better gift to give yourself than to…
If not now, when?
Love and Light,
In all these categories, when you make your lists challenge yourself to stretch and grow. Your lists should inspire, excite and be just this side of dangerous!
If your Choices don’t Light you up, I would love to help you Create that Fire!

Years ago, when I was new to the crystal world, I thought crystals were pretty, sparkly, and mostly decorative. I had not yet encountered their power as healing tools.
Then one day I was doing a Reiki session for my good friend, David Singing Bear, who was experiencing uncomfortable chest congestion. As I worked on him, I heard very clearly, “put that green calcite on his chest”. Yes, I am psychic, but I don’t often hear a voice as clear as that. There were three pieces of green calcite on the windowsill which I placed on David’s chest. Then I saw this weird vapor-like energy spiral out of his chest. WHAT??? I was slightly freaked out.
When the session was over, I told Singing Bear why I had put the calcite on his chest. He was not surprised, turns out he had been using crystals and specifically calcites for years in his healing practice. He was just surprised that I had not used crystals prior to that time.
Since that day I have studied and learned about using crystals and minerals for the benefit of myself and my clients. I can hardly do a “basic” Reiki session now. It just seems so natural to incorporate my healing friends and allies. I’ll often start with green calcite on the heart chakra, especially if the client has talked about heartbreak or wounding. I have a Golden Healer and a Time Link quartz that are usually in one or the other of the client’s hands. I always use the Time Link quartz if I suspect wounds or trauma from a past life or early childhood. The Time Link quartz links up to the past to root out and heal those traumas. It can also be used to clear the way for future work, or manifest intentions. The Golden Healer was a gift from another healer–and it is a powerful ally in healing physical or emotional wounds.
Usually, I have a simple grid around my client, alternating quartz points with fluorite. The quartz amplifies our healing intentions and the fluorite helps clear and cleanse the energy centers. I add any other mineral that “feels right”, often celestite to connect them with Spirit world or Black Tourmaline to ground them. Many people use Hematite to ground the client, but personally, I feel it bounces the energy around.
I always choose the crystals based on what the client needs and what the spirits suggest. Generally, I am using colors that correlate with the chakra color for that chakra. For instance, Amethyst or Clear Quartz for the Crown; Lapis Lazuli or Sodalite for Third Eye; Blue Lace Agate for Throat; Green calcite, Aventurine, or Rose quartz for heart chakra; Citrine for the Solar Plexus; Carnelian for the Sacral; and Red Jasper for the Root. Other minerals I frequently use are Ruby Zoisite if working with past lives, Fire Agate for sexual empowerment, Garnet for sexual healing and Orange Calcite for claiming back lost power.
I almost always use green calcite as it is so powerful in releasing any blocked or negative energy. And nearly every session I include a Herkimer Diamond and Pyrite under the head. Herkimer Diamond for conscious attunement to the highest level, allowing the higher self to advise us. Pyrite for help in decisiveness and action. From there it’s always a mix, sometimes I have an idea ahead of time of what I’ll use but usually it happens as I begin. My guides and the client’s guides show me the best healing tools to use.
I always have beautiful wands available. I use my Selenite wands to clear negative energy. There is also a Selenite pad in each healing room. If I want to reposition a crystal it can first be placed on the Selenite to cleanse it as Selenite will cleanse the crystal in five minutes. My Apache Gold wand aids intuition and detoxifies energy channels; I also use it to clear blocks and amplify other crystals’ work. My most recent acquisition, a Smoky Quartz wand, lifts depression and negativity and promotes the elimination of the digestive system. If the client is nervous or stressed the Smoky Quartz brings emotional calmness. In that case, I place it vertically running from their solar plexus up to the heart chakra.
Another tool I always have on hand is a pendulum, which I use to check the chakras if I’m not getting a good read when I do an energetic scan. My pendulum can also give me a quick, clear answer if the client has a question that I don’t get the answer for right off.
Clearly, there are infinite ways to use our crystals and minerals for healing work. As you begin to work with healing tools, experiment with what feels right; feel the energy of the crystal/mineral and how it works with your clients. Allow yourself to stretch and grow beyond what I say or what a book says. Use your intuition and guidance to determine what crystals work best for and with you.
As I was completing this article my cat pulled a piece of orange calcite off the shelf on my desk. It just so happens that it is a piece of orange calcite that was once owned by and worked with David Singing Bear. When he passed into the next realm his family sold his crystal and mineral collection and I was able to acquire some beautiful tools that had been infused with my friend’s powerful healing energy. It would be just like Singing Bear to prompt Spencer (my cat) to pull down the orange calcite as I typed this article. David, are you with me today? What a gift, thank you!
Enjoy working with your energetic allies in the mineral world!
Love and light, BakeR
p.s. there are pages and pages of info on the web about crystals and minerals and how to use them, including the use of grids that are powerful for manifesting your intentions. I highly recommend The Crystal Bible 1 & 2, and The Book of Stones as well.
YES, absolutely, pray and take action! In Religious Science we say, “Treat and Move Your Feet.” “Treat” refers to a Spiritual Mind Treatment (SMT) which is our form of affirmative prayer. I would write or speak my SMT and then move my feet.
If I am feeling depressed, I will say a treatment and then I might go for a walk in the red rocks, sit in the garden amongst the jewel-like faces of the pansies, call a friend who makes me laugh, watch a funny movie or read something inspirational. I use the techniques that work for me to pull me out of the depression. Recently during the COVID lockdown, I found myself depressed about 2-3 weeks in. When I realized and acknowledged that I was sleeping 10-11 hours per night, I knew I had to rectify the situation immediately. I committed to getting up, dressing up, and showing up for myself. No one else could do this for me, it was all on me and I knew what it would take. My mood improved, my spirit elevated and I was on the road to happiness and contentment again.
When we take responsibility for our actions – when we move our feet – we are telling the Universe – God – Spirit whatever you choose to call Her that we are committed to receiving. In the case of depression – we are committed to receiving joy or even contentment. If we are choosing more abundance, we also need to be open to receiving abundance in any form. If your friend invites you to lunch and offers to pay, ACCEPT the gift! Very often you say NO – NO – NO, I can pay for my own lunch. Now you have confused the Universe, you just did an SMT for more abundance, your friend shows up and offers to buy you lunch (a form of abundance) and you refuse her offer. The Universe is like, “Wait, didn’t you want more abundance? I sent your friend to buy you lunch. Isn’t that abundance?”
If you desire more Peace and Love in your world, you can:
· Write or speak your Spiritual Mind Treatment/Prayer
· Show up and BE Peace and Love
· Brainstorm ways to manifest more Peace and Love, for yourself and others
· Listen to other’s perspectives – what are they feeling, what do they want?
· Open your mind and heart to new possibilities
· Commit to Peace and Love no matter how you’re challenged (I work on this constantly, especially when driving)
· Vibrate your Peace and Love to others and to the world!
· Be grateful for all the Peace and Love you already experience.
These actions may not change the world, but they can change your world, here and now. If you happen upon someone who is in a rage or sad and depressed, how can you affect that person’s life in a positive way? How can you help them see a different way? Maybe if all you can do at that moment is send them light and love, do that.
When we put our intentions in writing or meditate on them – the Universe automatically creates a support system for them. We effectively stir the energy pot!
Act as if – Act as if you already have it, are it or do it.
The more positive energy we create around our intentions, the more likely they will happen. Also, we must deeply believe IT is ours. If you have any core issues like, “I’m not good enough,” “I’m too old, too sad, too ugly, too dumb”, etc., just clean that crap out right now! Clean those negative thoughts out of your brain and fill it with positive thoughts.
God – the Universe – Spirit, whatever you call Her wants us to take responsibility too. We don’t pray that our children will be safe and then let them play in the street. We don’t pray that our lung cancer will go away and continue to smoke three packs a day. (OK, some folks will, go figure!)
An aspect of our lives where this shows up is being happy. If you want to Be Happy – Be Happy! (If you suffer from chronic depression, you are exempt, you may need outside help.) But, if you’re just average Jane or Joe and you want to be happy – Go Be Happy.
Average Jane or Joe (AJJ): Dear God, I want to be Happy!
God: Okay, be Happy.
AJJ: No, you don’t understand, I don’t have a partner, how can I be happy?
God: What are you doing to have a partner?
AJJ: Well, I prayed. (Once with fervor)
God: What else did you do?
AJJ: What do you mean, what else should I do?
God: Well last week you were invited to a party, but you didn’t go. There were a couple of great people there who would have been delighted to meet you. The other day, you saw a cute guy at Whole Foods, he smiled, but you didn’t smile back. In fact, later when you saw him eating in the deli, you didn’t even say Hi, or smile, or anything. Do you really want to have a partner? Show up for your own parade! I put that guy there, he tried, but you didn’t show up. And furthermore, be happy for all you do have, the good friends, a home, car, music, books. Be joyful, that you live in such abundance. What do you really want? Are you willing to be scared? Are you willing to do the work? Are you willing to be vulnerable? What’s it worth to you? On a scale of 1-10, what’s your commitment level? By the way, I’ll love you no matter what!
Treat/Pray and Move Your Feet! Show up for your own Parade! Be Happy! Love Yourself, you deserve it!
Today, especially I ask that you Pray for light in the world, Pray for love, Pray for acceptance, Pray for open minds and hearts, Pray for vibrant health. Pray for Peace!
Today, especially I ask that you Take action:
· Support a good cause with dollars or time
· Have an honest conversation with yourself and others about your biases and beliefs
· Stand up for what is right/truthful and just.
· Honor love and compassion when you see it or experience it.by
Are you suffering from New Age Guilt?
You know, New Age guilt, that syndrome that comes on when you get sick and you ask yourself what caused it? What is the emotional reason behind this illness? What could I have done to prevent it? Why did this happen to me?
What if there IS NOT an emotional reason? What if you just caught something? What if that nasty bug going around got its crappy little tentacles in you? What if you just had a weak spot in your intestine, brain or artery since you were born, and there isn’t an emotional reason. You just happened to be born with it. Is it really helpful to beat yourself up some more?
I have good news, recently a woman was in for a reading and my guides told her, “SOMETIMES YOU JUST GET SICK!” WHAT? Sometimes it really is this physical vehicle we came in that gives out. The good news is you can let go of the new age guilt, you can decide to love yourself anyway. And you can stop guilting other people too! There’s an idea we can all benefit from, love ourselves just as we are and love everyone else just as they are.
No, I did not say you can stop taking your vitamins, jump off the treadmill, eat crappy food, or forget to clean up your thoughts! This is not a go to Burger King, get out of jail free card! I am however, gifting you a leave the guilt behind card. Let’s say you do get sick, you’re laying in bed feeling like hell and trying to figure out why. Sometimes it is productive to read Louise Hay or Ernest Holmes and find out what the underlying cause is so you can say the appropriate affirmation. There are times when we do need to clean up our thoughts, forgive someone or love ourselves. If that’s the case please do the work. However, you could decide to make your affirmations something along these lines: I love myself. I am whole, healthy and complete. I honor and appreciate my body for serving me all these years. I am so blessed to be alive in this day and age.
Love yourself through it! And remember:
The highest thought is always that thought which contains Joy.
The clearest words are those words which contain Truth.
The grandest feeling is that feeling which you call Love.
-Neale Donald Walsh, Conversations with God
Give yourself these gifts Joy, Truth and Love, you deserve it! And stop beating up my friend (that’s you)!
Love and joy, BakeR

Here’s my latest Red Rocker Chat video: Five Step Affirmative Prayer
And the print version if you prefer:
Affirmative prayer or treatment is the form of prayer I was taught. Instead of begging or beseeching God to help us we are stating our intention in a powerful and positive way. You can also use this form of prayer to express pure gratitude. Remember to connect with Spirit when everything is going good too, coming from that place of love and thanks.
When I used to teach children in Sunday School at New Vision Spiritual Growth Center how to do affirmative prayer, I would teach them with these words and actions:
God is all there is! -use your hands to make a large circle, like the whole world
I am all that God is. -Bring your hands into your chest.
I am happy or I am smart or I have a new friend etc. -Holding palms out flat to receive.
Thank you God! -Clapping
I let it go. And so it is! -Hands and arms opening into the air.
The adult version goes like this:
Five Step Affirmative Prayer/Treatment with short examples of each step.
Recognition – God is all there is. It is in the mountains, a drop of water and the ocean. Spirit is unlimited, creative genius.
Unification – I am all that Spirit is. I am the creative energy that Spirit is, I am the grace that Spirit is, I am that which It is.
Affirmation – I have completed my super spirit charged, psychic development book, which inspires and empowers people to use their gifts. Or Money is flowing to me in ever increasing amounts.
Gratitude – Thank you, thank you, thank you Spirit for the creativity and commitment you have so generously shared with me. I am so grateful for the inspiration all around me, the beauty of a spring day, the love of my friends, the power and majesty of the mountains.
Release – I release these words into the action of Universal law, knowing that it is complete – it is done. And so it is!
Suggestions for use:
Make it your’s, use words that resonate with you. Do write it positively and in the present tense.
I believe that the most important element is the feeling you bring to your treatment. If you are just repeating words by rote or out of obligation please rethink it. Make it meaningful to you!
Some people like to write their prayers, others choose not to. Again use what works for you. I personally have gone through phases of both. When I was first working with affirmative prayer or treatments as we call them in Religious Science, I wrote my prayers, it helped me to learn the steps and see when my treatments were lifeless.
When you release it, RELEASE IT! You don’t have to worry about how it will happen, how to do it is not our problem; the Universe knows how to make it happen. Get your ego out of the way and trust. Do you want to put your faith in Spirit or Fear? Right, Spirit! So let it go.
Practice, practice, practice. When you practice and see results, you will gain confidence and faith. Use those spiritual muscles!
Enjoy your divine connection with love and joy, BakeRby
Connect with Spirit
Several years ago when I first became a Reiki practitioner I went to my teacher, Laurelle Gaia, and asked her if she ever got bored doing Reiki. I had just done my first long session and found myself drifting away. Fortunately she didn’t smack me, she just answered with a resounding “NO”.
I walked away with my tail between my legs to think about it.
Usually the time flew by when I was working with a client, but occasionally I would find myself counting the minutes. The next time that I got bored, I checked in to find out what was going on. What I realized was that I was disconnected from Spirit, I wasn’t channeling Reiki energy; I was in ego and when I’m in ego I can’t channel anything. My ego self had to get out of the way and allow Spirit’s healing energy to channel through me. As soon as I remembered that Spirit does the work through me, I reconnected and I don’t get “bored” anymore. Just the other day I did back to back hour long Reiki sessions for six different people without any boredom. Six hours of Reiki and never a second of disconnection! In fact the only issue I have now is going over the allotted time, because my ego self is completely gone when Spirit takes over. The really cool thing is I don’t need a car to drive home anymore, I just float! LOL
This a perfect metaphor for my life. Whenever my ego self gets in the way I lose touch with Spirit and find it hard to get the Truth for myself. The disconnection also happens when I get too busy, I will find myself looking “out there” for answers instead of going within for the Truth. My fear based ego still believes it has all the answers and fights to keep me under control. Yet, the answers that will truly serve my highest and best good come from that quiet place within, where Spirit, my guides and my higher self reside. As long as I take the time and make the space to get connected the answers are there.
If you have issues with meditation or hearing your answers it’s likely that your ego gets in the way. Isn’t it your ego that thinks it has too much to do to be still and meditate? Isn’t it your ego that creates “monkey mind”, all those busy thoughts that spin around and around distracting you from your inner wisdom?
When do you get disconnected from the wisdom of your higher self, guides and Spirit? How can you connect today? To receive all the gifts Spirit has to offer carve out some time and space to truly connect with your inner wisdom. Give yourself the gift of connection, the gift of peace and the gift of wisdom.
Love and joy, BakeRby
Many of you are empaths…because of this you are easily attacked by troubled spirits and even the negative energy of those you are in close contact with. If you work with someone who is negative and you go home tired and drained, if you go to the mall and it feels like an attack, if you work in an area where there are lots of spirits crossing over (hospitals, hospice, etc.) and you don’t know how to deal with the emotions, you are probably an empath. Empaths pick up others emotions, we can be deeply affected by others negativity. It’s very important that you learn how to protect yourself.
Here is a quick video that explains very simply how to do this for yourself. For empaths it’s best if you do this every morning.
Click here for the video Protect yourself from troubled spirits or troubled people
Crystals that are good for protection
Black tourmaline, jet, obsidian and smoky quartz are all good for keeping negative energies away. .Malachite draws the negative entities out of the system. Amber is excellent for healing and it’s gentle energy is perfect to use for teething babies. Cat’s Eye dispels negative energy. Pyrite protects the subtle and physical bodies. Jasper absorbs negative energy. Kunzite works on the individual and environment. Labradorite brings light which dispels the darkness of the negative energies. And my new personal favorite Tibetan Black Quartz.
According to Naisha Ahsian in “The Book of Stones”: Tibetan Black Quartz brings to the aura an energy like a flashlight in the dark. Their frequency acts as a psychic ‘window wash’, clearing debris from the energetic field and allowing more Light to fill the aura. As the Light permeates the energetic field, the aura expands and strengthens, creating a ‘non-force’ field of Light around one’s physical body. The ‘non-force’ field illuminates all that it touches, bringing Light and consciousness to any environment. In a sense, these stones make you a carrier of their energy, and you spread wherever you go.
And isn’t this what we all want a ‘non-force’ field of Light around our physical body?
Have a Light filled day! Namaste, BakeRby
Recently I watched an incredible video of the near death experience of Anita Moorjani. Unable to move as a result of the cancer that had ravaged her body for over three years, doctors at the hospital that morning had given Anita just hours to live She crossed over and came back. Here’s what this beautiful woman learned:
” Let me explain that there is a difference between ‘being loving’ and ‘being love’. Being loving means giving love to another whether you have any for yourself or not. It means giving what you yourself may or may not even have to give. This type of giving of love can eventually drain you, because we don’t always have a limitless supply. And then we look to the other to replenish our pool of love, and if it is not forthcoming, we stop being loving ourselves, because we are exhausted. Being love, on the other hand, means loving myself unconditionally so that it overflows, and anyone and everyone around me just becomes an automatic recipient of my love. The more I love myself, the more it flows out to others. It almost feels like being a vessel for love to flow through. When I am being love, I don’t need people to behave a certain way in order for them to be a recipient of my love. They are automatically getting my love as a result of me loving myself. So to stop being love, to me, means to stop loving myself. Hence, I will not stop being love on account of another.” –Anita Moorjani
I love her line, “They are automatically getting my love as a result of me loving myself.” That is so true! When you love yourself you automatically love others. When you truly love yourself you have plenty of love to give away. There is an unlimited supply.
When we are giving love from a space in us that is already full – we are not depleted, our well is full, it overflows onto others. First, because we filled the well ourselves, we always know how to replenish it. Second, the love we give away always comes back tenfold. “That’s great, you’re thinking, “but how do I fill myself with love?”
- Know that you and source/god/spirit are the only ones capable of truly filling your love well.
- Give yourself affirmations to work with daily such as? I radiate love which returns to me tenfold. I surround myself with beauty, grace and joy. I am full of energy, vibrant and vivacious! I create new stories for myself, filled with light and love. I love myself! If any negative messages come up when using these affirmations that is your clue that the old tapes you still run need to be erased. Cancel the old message and replace it with your affirmation.
- Nurture yourself – have a spa day, take your creative child out to play, walk in the park, hike a mountain, bake a treat just for you, meditate, watch a beautiful or funny movie.
- Stand up for yourself by having strong boundaries. Say no when you mean no – say yes when you really mean yes. If you’re doing anything from a sense of guilt or obligation instead of joy, you are not standing in your Truth.
- Send yourself an online greeting card – date it for a day in the future, so it’s a complete surprise.
- Give your inner child a new toy – soft and cuddly or something that makes her/him giggle.
- Dangle your toes in water, a creek, lake, pool, lay on your back and watch the clouds go by.
- Create a ritual/ceremony for yourself to honor your wisdom, beauty, breath, toes, nose, emotions _____________ or all of you!
- Write out the ABC’s and choose one positive word for each letter that describes you, i.e. Alert Brilliant Creative….Xerothermic Youthful Zesty
- Give yourself Reiki
- Work with a Spiritual Life Coach to empower you to find that inner love…the love that can never be taken away!
What can you do to love yourself more today?
What will it feel like to have so much love for yourself that it spills over all those around you?
Do you know that you are worthy of this much love? YES YOU ARE!!!
Have a beautiful, love filled life!
Many blessings! BakeRby
Thanks to T-Mobile and my friend David Sunfellow, I’ve just had a wonderful treat this morning. This beautiful video made at Heathrow Terminal 5, International Arrivals. For those of you who watch television, maybe you’ve seen the short version, but I don’t watch TV so I’ve never seen this.
I was amazed at the emotion this brought up. In high school I used to drive over to Chicago’s O’Hare airport from my small town in Michigan, just to watch people come and go. The coming home greetings would always touch me deeply, as was the case with this video. How beautiful to see people giving the gift of hugs, kisses, smiles…welcoming each other, loving each other. We don’t get to see these kind of feelings expressed one to another in many places, airports being one exception. And in airports, maybe because of the long travel, or the time away, people usually are not shy about being expressive. You get to witness the most unrestrained joy. Joyous screams, joyous kisses, joyous hugs….joy just oozing out, bubbling over and touching everyone else!
My invitation to you this holiday season is to express your love for friends and family in a new expressive way. Open your mind, open your heart and give from that place of pure love, with no attachment to the outcome. Don’t worry about how it will be received, that is their choice not yours!
Here are some ideas for sharing from the heart:
- Big hugs, often!
- Kisses too!
- Find a youtube video that a loved one would enjoy and send to them…free!
- Share a walk in the park, a hike in the woods, build a snowperson.
- Send online greeting cards, again usually FREE, and saves trees.
- Give the gift of service, offer to clean the house, babysit, walk the dog, feed the cat, take an elderly person shopping, fix dinner.
- More hugs and kisses
- Tell someone you love them and add why. “I love you because you read my blog and post comments…I so appreciate hearing that you were touched!”
- Invite someone over for a cup of tea or coffee….talk…turn off your cell phones…that’s right no calls, no texting, no checking email.
- Go to the airport with a friend and watch people greet each other…let yourselves feel the emotion.
- Hold hands with your partner.
- Turn off the TV…watch a fire, or read a beautiful passage from a favorite book, more hand holding is perfectly acceptable too!
- Can’t afford a Christmas tree, get out your ornaments and decorate a tree outside. Invite your Jewish friends to help!
- Share one of your traditions (Chanukah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Solstice, Ramadan, etc.) with a friend who is not of your faith. I went to a friends Chanukah concert one year and cried it was so beautiful (thanks Karen)! One year I invited Jewish friends over to help decorate the Christmas tree…have you ever heard a grown man say, “This is the first ornament I have ever hung on a tree”? (thanks Arthur)
- Go caroling…remember caroling?
- Trade services, or do a big project together.
- Visit a temple, church, shrine or ceremony that is not of your faith…enjoy their traditions. One year I went to Christmas Eve midnight mass, I found it beautiful, and not fraught with any baggage for me.
- Give away a favorite book, or just copy a favorite passage to pass on.
- Go through old photos and give them to friends or family
- Volunteer together with a friend at a shelter, charity, park, picking up road trash, etc. Bonus – more time together!
- LISTEN! Maybe the most precious gift of all!
How can you share the gift of your love, your joy, your peace, your compassion, your wisdom, your talents, your caring, your creativity, your heart this year?
JOY TO THE WORLD!!!
PEACE TO THE WORLD!!
LOVE TO YOU AND YOURS!

Rain beat down my windshield, and red mud splattered my car as I drove through Monument Valley in October of 2009. The road was muddy but passable. The thought of returning to my campsite was daunting. It was a cold, hard rain, and I had myself and a large wet dog to care for.
Suddenly I was sobbing, I pulled off the road and I heard Mamacita (my spirit guide) say to me, “You don’t have to do it alone anymore. All your life you have done it alone, even when in a relationship you were alone. You always kept something back. It’s time now…it’s time.”
I had gone to Monument Valley with my dog, Cheyenne, a tent, sleeping bag, small cook stove, lantern and other basic supplies. I was prepared to stay twelve days, on a trip I had anticipated for months. I knew something waited in Monument Valley, I just wasn’t sure what that something was. While it was gorgeous during the day (sans the rain) at night it was colder than a well digger’s ass in January! Thankfully I had brought along a down comforter, which became my sleeping pad. Cheyenne gave me a look like only a dog can, one that said, “I love you Mom, but what were you thinking?”
I had bet my friend Jim $200.00 that I would make it the full twelve days. He insisted that I could survive the camping, but I would miss André too much and come home. It wasn’t so much a case of missing André, it was that I wanted to be with him and I knew in that moment through the tears, through the pain of aloneness that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him. I surrendered to love.
What I know for you is that you don’t have to do it alone anymore either. The Truth is you are never alone, however, some days it’s hard to remember there is a loving, abundant, infinite, wise source larger than you. Of course this source is always available, but when you are in the middle of the tsunami, or drowning in a black hole, Source seems a long, long way off.
So you beg, you plead and bargain…”dear God if you will just ____________________ I will ___________________. Occasionally this seems to work (hopefully you express your gratitude) until the next desperate moment. The Truth is you are not alone-EVER! Source is always there of course and so are other people! And those other people are searching for you, to connect-to create-to grow through love. ‘Cause when we get down to the core, love is what it’s all about, isn’t it? Love – in the form of friends, family, even strangers who step up and help each other, even those in Spirit world.
After my recent women’s retreat I did a reading for my new friend Trish. Her husband Aron who had died two years ago, came through to talk to her. I’ll let Trish’s words tell the rest of the story:
“During BakeR’s reading, Aron gave me a huge bouquet of yellow daisies. Didn’t mean anything significant to me. Then I visited Aron’s marker at the National Cemetery for Veteran’s Day. Yep, in front of his marker, at least 24 bushes in full bloom, of . . . yellow daisies.” –Trish
This story gave me goose bumps and tears, and it reminded me how un-alone we truly are. Most people are not aware how many of their loved ones who have crossed over are still with them. You are never alone!
Remember if you are feeling alone, or if you’re living in pain, worry, frustration, anger or sadness, there is someone else who is feeling the same way. There are a myriad of ways to connect with them…find your support group whether it be one or forty four.
- Search the newspaper for a list of groups and ongoing events. GET UP AND GO!
- Check out Yahoo groups
- Go to a church, synagogue, temple, ashram etc. and connect with like minded people
- Create a prayer group or just find a prayer partner
- Talk honestly with your significant other, a family member or friend – tell them how you’re feeling
- Help someone else-just listen…this will return ten-fold.
- Check out self-help books from the library…read them…a few of my favorites
“Excuse Me Your Life Is Waiting” – Lynn Grabhorn
“Loving What Is” – Byron katie
“This Thing Called You” – Ernest Holmes (almost anything by Holmes)
“The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success” – Deepak Chopra (almost anything by Chopra)
“Anam Cara” – John O’Donohue
“Return To Love” – Marianne Williamson

Get up, Get going, Connect! Now more than ever is the time to reach out, to help one another, or to ask for help. Yes, I know we all hate to ask for help…but guess what? It’s time! If a neighbor, a friend or family member asked for help you would be happy to assist wouldn’t you? Then why are you so afraid to ask? I’m seeing more and more the necessity for all of us to reach out in whatever way we can. Mamacita says over and over again, there is no time to waste, we will all need each other in big ways. Share your good and ask if you need help.
What better time to start than the holidays…Thanksgiving is all about sharing…the Pilgrims and the Native Americans sharing crops, food and friendship…and we recreate this celebration yearly by sharing our bounty!
Let’s give Thanks for the abundance we have, share it and multiply it!
p.s. On my wedding day I handed Jim $200, best 200 bucks I ever lost, I guess you know I came home early!by
