Connect with Spirit

Several years ago when I first became a Reiki practitioner I went to my teacher, Laurelle Gaia, and asked her if she ever got bored doing Reiki. I had just done my first long session and found myself drifting away. Fortunately she didn’t smack me, she just answered with a resounding “NO”.
I walked away with my tail between my legs to think about it.

Usually the time flew by when I was working with a client, but occasionally I would find myself counting the minutes. The next time that I got bored, I checked in to find out what was going on. What I realized was that I was disconnected from Spirit, I wasn’t channeling Reiki energy; I was in ego and when I’m in ego I can’t channel anything. My ego self had to get out of the way and allow Spirit’s healing energy to channel through me. As soon as I remembered that Spirit does the work through me, I reconnected and I don’t get “bored” anymore. Just the other day I did back to back hour long Reiki sessions for six different people without any boredom. Six hours of Reiki and never a second of disconnection! In fact the only issue I have now is going over the allotted time, because my ego self is completely gone when Spirit takes over. The really cool thing is I don’t need a car to drive home anymore, I just float! LOL

This a perfect metaphor for my life. Whenever my ego self gets in the way I lose touch with Spirit and find it hard to get the Truth for myself. The disconnection also happens when I get too busy, I will find myself looking “out there” for answers instead of going within for the Truth. My fear based ego still believes it has all the answers and fights to keep me under control. Yet, the answers that will truly serve my highest and best good come from that quiet place within, where Spirit, my guides and my higher self reside. As long as I take the time and make the space to get connected the answers are there.

If you have issues with meditation or hearing your answers it’s likely that your ego gets in the way. Isn’t it your ego that thinks it has too much to do to be still and meditate? Isn’t it your ego that creates “monkey mind”, all those busy thoughts that spin around and around distracting you from your inner wisdom?

When do you get disconnected from the wisdom of your higher self, guides and Spirit? How can you connect today? To receive all the gifts Spirit has to offer carve out some time and space to truly connect with your inner wisdom. Give yourself the gift of connection, the gift of peace and the gift of wisdom.

Love and joy, BakeR

Love Your Guides!

Have you ever gone to an enlightening and illuminating spiritual retreat where you felt completely connected to your guides, angels and animal totems? Where you experienced visions or intense feelings, heard voices or experienced Kundalini awakenings? But then you went home and you wondered why the angels, guides and totems deserted you. Where the heck did they go? Why were you so connected at the retreat but not at home?

At the retreat you opened up to the energies and played in the mystical realm. You rode the wave of expansion created by the synchronistic energy of a group of people coming together to learn, experience and practice new skills, creating an intense level of awareness. Your focus and energy were completely centered on learning these new skills; there were no distractions. But alas you had to go home, chop wood, carry water, pay bills, cook, clean and maybe even find time to work your day job.

Well that’s just great, but how can you create the same connection with your guides at home?

Practice, practice, practice. Yes, practice your connection. Create time to spend with your guides. Like a relationship with a good friend (which they are) you must nurture that relationship. The more you connect with them, the more you will learn from them and the easier it will be to connect. If you can carve out time for a Starbucks coffee, or to watch the latest series on Netflix you can make time to work with your guides. Find ten minutes (longer if possible) a day to sit in quiet and invite them in.

Create a sacred space – A small altar with a candle, crystals, rocks, feathers, icons, any items that help you create the mood to sit quietly and connect. It might be just a special chair in the corner by a sunny window. This is where you sit when your intention is to connect with spirits, guides, animal totems, fairies, or angels. It is your own private vortex, where the energy feels right.

When I’m doing private readings at home I sit in my red rocker instead of at my desk. I can connect with my guides when I’m sitting at my desk, but the rocker feels better. A bead and feather dance necklace from Peru decorates the wall, a brass Buddha that’s been with me for forty plus years sits amongst labradorite, spirit stone, clear quartz, selenite, rocks, shells and a crow wing that I found at West Fork trail head. My grandmothers yarn basket with a few small balls of yarn sits at my feet. These things move and are replaced at will but the space always feels just right. It’s my special place to talk with my earthly and spiritual friends. Some days I play music other days I don’t. There are no particular items you should or must include in your sacred space, use the items that help you feel a connection with spirit world. It can be completely barren white walls if that is what calls to you.

Your guides are friends; treat them as such. Call on them in good times and bad. Send gratitude for the light they bring to your life, ask them to intervene, to play the muse, to walk with you, to laugh with you, to create with you.

Like friends, the guides love to hear from you. When they know they are important to you they will share guidance and information. Don’t always expect big flashy fireworks, loud voices or a knock on the head. Their presence is usually more like a chill up your spine, hair raising goose bumps on your arms, a quiet whispering “why don’t you try that path”, knowing the correct street to turn on, that old song on the radio that speaks to you, or a friend calling at exactly the moment you thought of them.
.
Trust these subtle gifts, your guides are touching you, talking to you or maybe sending your human friend to help. Remember too that we all connect with different “clairs”, you may be clairaudient, clairvoyant, clairsentient, clairgustant, clairtangent, clairscent or a combination of some or all of these. Get quiet – remove all the distractions, silence or turn off the phone, close the computer screen and listen or feel. Be aware of the subtle ways they communicate and encourage them, let them know you hear/feel/see them

You will find that when your guides really want your attention they will demand it in not so subtle ways. Once I asked whether it was for my highest and best good to continue in a primary relationship. I said, “if the answer is yes I want to see two ravens fly over, if the answer is no, just one raven should fly over.” Standing on a mountain in southern Arizona where ravens are numerous, I knew this was possible. As I sat and meditated a lone raven flew over and did a spiral dance right over my head. In my infinite wisdom I decided that was a coincidence. Yeah right, a raven doing a spiral dance right over my head was a coincidence! I was really resisting this answer and my ego gave me a perfect rationalization.

The story gets better, as I drove home I saw a lone raven fly off a tree on the left side of the road; he landed in the middle of the road right in front of my car and strutted around like he was king of the road. Needless to say, I had to stop and watch this little parade or slaughter the king.
IMG_0497-300x200-ravenBut my guides still weren’t done with me. Around a half mile later another raven flew from the right side of the road and again landed on the road in front of my car, looking right at me. Wow, really? Granted I was only going about 25 MPH on this long dirt road, but never in my life had a glossy black raven landed on the road in front of my car. It took me another year or so to end the relationship (back then I was a slow learner) but I’ve never forgotten those stunning ravens. By the way, I knew it was time to end the relationship, this was just a very strong confirmation that I needed to take the necessary steps. I stopped that day and gave thanks for the guidance, but as always I had free will to follow through or not.
Your guides are there for you always, in all ways. Do you want to spend time with them? Then just do it. Get quiet, go in and invite them to be with you. Thank them for their time and send love and light back to them.

May your days be filled with love, guidance and connection with your spiritual friends,

Many of you are empaths…because of this you are easily attacked by troubled spirits and even the negative energy of those you are in close contact with. If you work with someone who is negative and you go home tired and drained, if you go to the mall and it feels like an attack, if you work in an area where there are lots of spirits crossing over (hospitals, hospice, etc.) and you don’t know how to deal with the emotions, you are probably an empath. Empaths pick up others emotions, we can be deeply affected by others negativity. It’s very important that you learn how to protect yourself.
Here is a quick video that explains very simply how to do this for yourself. For empaths it’s best if you do this every morning.

Click here for the video Protect yourself from troubled spirits or troubled people

Crystals that are good for protection
Black tourmaline, jet, obsidian and smoky quartz are all good for keeping negative energies away. .Malachite draws the negative entities out of the system. Amber is excellent for healing and it’s gentle energy is perfect to use for teething babies. Cat’s Eye dispels negative energy. Pyrite protects the subtle and physical bodies. Jasper absorbs negative energy. Kunzite works on the individual and environment. Labradorite brings light which dispels the darkness of the negative energies. And my new personal favorite Tibetan Black Quartz.
tibetanquartz_6515
According to Naisha Ahsian in “The Book of Stones”: Tibetan Black Quartz brings to the aura an energy like a flashlight in the dark. Their frequency acts as a psychic ‘window wash’, clearing debris from the energetic field and allowing more Light to fill the aura. As the Light permeates the energetic field, the aura expands and strengthens, creating a ‘non-force’ field of Light around one’s physical body. The ‘non-force’ field illuminates all that it touches, bringing Light and consciousness to any environment. In a sense, these stones make you a carrier of their energy, and you spread wherever you go.

And isn’t this what we all want a ‘non-force’ field of Light around our physical body?

Have a Light filled day! Namaste, BakeR

Shaman's Cave

Here’s a little video to inspire you:

Sometimes 240 degrees is enough!

And if you prefer to read it here’s the text:

I climbed Thorny Butte today! “Why does that deserve an exclamation mark?”, you might ask. Because, I’ve tried to climb it before and found it an almost impermeable forest of cacti and underbrush, hence the name I gave it, Thorny Butte. Yet I know that amongst the cacti are beautiful flowers, some orangey ones sprouting from the prickliest prickly pear, tiny purple and yellow ones growing right up between the spines and tall pale pink  tubular flowers under a scrubby tree. The flowers found their way, so could I.

Today I approached from the right side off an old jeep trail. There it was, a path I hadn’t noticed before, someone had gone before me cutting a path through the rock and brush. It didn’t always look like I expected it to look…there were times today when my path cut through undergrowth and over rocks, but it was still there.

There were times I thought I had lost it, but then it would appear, faintly pointing the direction I needed to go. I often questioned if I should follow the path, I was alone and  it was steep, but I asked my guides, I  listened and knew that I was safe. I trusted my inner guidance to lead me in the right direction as much as I trusted the path.

The last five feet were impenetrable, I couldn’t actually get to the top without forcing my way and I didn’t have the proper tools to make it. The view was still breathtaking even five feet from the top, I couldn’t see 360 degrees but sometimes 240 is enough!

  • Don’t give up, keep looking for your path, it may be around the next bend.
  • It’s okay to follow in another’s footsteps if you can’t find the way.
  • Don’t forget what goes up has to come down, save some energy for the descent.
  • Trust your inner GPS.
  • Be grateful for those who came before!

IMG_0497-300x200-ravenWhen I was first working with Mamacita, my spirit guide,  she told me to purchase a Silver Bullet travel trailer and go travel around the country.  I was stunned and confused at this advice because I don’t particularly like to travel…at least not that kind of travel.  I prefer to go somewhere and stay put for two weeks, get to know the locals, walk everywhere and relax.  The thought of traveling around, a day here, a couple of days there,  sounded like my  version of  hell.

After a few days of angst I finally said “NO”.  I then asked Mamacita what on earth she was thinking and why she would tell me to do something that was so revolting  to me.  Mamacita in her infinite wisdom told me that she wanted me to learn how to say NO.  That it didn’t matter who told me to do something, Jesus, Buddha,  the angels or her, if it wasn’t right for me I could say NO! This was huge for me, and I knew that if she had just told me I could do this it wouldn’t have had the same impact.   I needed to go through that trial to really assimilate the lesson.

When you’re hearing the wisdom of your Spirit Guides it is:

  • Clear
  • It  resonates with your Truth
  • It speaks to your heart instead of your ego
  • It may challenge you
  • It feels right
  • And you can say NO if it doesn’t fit for you

If the guidance does not fit these parameters ask again.  Check with your guides that you are hearing correctly, sit with them and take the time to understand.  If you do not get an answer when you ask, that is an answer.  No answer means  you need to reflect more and  maybe ask again in a few days.  Or possibly you aren’t supposed to do anything right now.

Remember to surrender, let go and get out of your own way.  The answer will come.  Ask yourself, “Is this forced?”. If it feels forced at all take a step back and check again.  It’s  okay to wait for the truth.

Apparently I didn’t completely learn the lesson because about two years ago I got a message to give one of my rings to a client.  A ring I really loved!  After some back and forth I gave her the ring but never felt right about it.  I was angry and frustrated when I came home and then I realized that an entity I had removed from a client earlier that day had attached to me.  It was this nasty entity that told me to give the ring to my client.  How did I finally know that?  The decision wasn’t right for me, I felt bad and I was mad as hell that I had done this stupid thing. If I had followed my Truth I would never have allowed that nasty entity to influence me like that.  I could have said NO and sent the ring later if I was still getting this guidance.   Believe me I definitely learned the lesson of saying NO,  that fateful day!

Clearing the entity is another story for another day, just please understand that you can always say NO, even to your guides (especially to a nasty entity posing as your guide).  Follow your Truth!

Steadily Cheyenne (my dog) and I climbed the Soldiers Pass Trail, we rounded the corner and there were the Seven Sacred Pools.  On this hot,    dusty day there was no water in the pools.  I sat and meditated for awhile, Cheyenne made friends and shared treats with a tiny dog named Zippy and rested in the shade of a scrub pine. As we headed back down the trail we encountered two women who had some questions.  The louder of the two demanded to know how far the sacred pools were.  I assured her the sacred pools were just around the next corner.  She asked if there was water in the pools.

“Not this time of year”, I replied.

“Are you serious? I can’t believe we hiked all this way and there’s no water.  Crap, they could have told us.”

“Who could have told you?”

“The people who suggested this trail, they could have told us there was no water in the pools.”

They stomped off to go see the “dry sacred pools”.

As I walked away I had to laugh, I wanted to turn back and say something sarcastic like, “Gee I’m sorry you haven’t seen any beauty today.”  But instead I practiced sending loving energy.  All around these two women were some of the most incredible, majestic red rock mountains, canyons and intense blue sky.  About 1/8 of a mile away they would have hiked past Devil’s Sink Hole, a huge naturally formed sink hole.  They had hiked from Jordan Road which meant they had been on several of the best trails in Sedona!  What I realized was in their search for the “Seven Sacred Pools” they had likely missed the sacredness on their journey.

It reminded me of the weekend I went to a Women’s Spiritual Retreat outside of Tucson.  On Saturday morning the leader told us to go out on the land and find our sacred spot.  There we were to draw a circle to sit within and meditate.  Prior to this I had a phone call from a client.  He was very upset, demanding to know what I was doing to sell his home, what was my plan and where was I anyway.  One of my better clients, we had become friends as well as business associates.  He had never treated me this way and I was shocked, embarrassed, hurt and frustrated.  I contemplated returning home early from the retreat.  I chose to do my meditation and then decide if I would go home.

As I walked the land looking for my “sacred spot” I was lost in worry about my client.  The conversation played over and over in my head, fretting and fuming I stomped along.  Suddenly I heard the unmistakable sound of a rattlesnake. Similar to the sound of a locust, once you’ve heard a mad rattler you recognize the difference.  I stopped in my tracks and looked around to determine its location.  There about one foot in front of me, at the base of a large Saguaro was a coiled rattler, but she was the strangest looking rattler I’ve ever seen.  Pale peach in color with light diamonds on her back she was an Albino, pretty rare even in rattlesnake country.  I’m not afraid of snakes and rattlers are not particularly aggressive, so I backed up a step or two and asked her if she had a message for me.  “BE HERE NOW!”  ‘Be here now’?, I questioned.  And then I got it.  Wrapped up in my worry over the client, I was mentally and emotionally back in Scottsdale.  My body may have been in the desert but my mind and heart were not.

The sacred experience I was searching for had been preempted by my worry and concern.  Had I taken one more unaware step I would have most likely been struck by the rattlesnake.  I thanked the Albino rattlesnake for her wisdom, came back into my body and moved on to find my sacred spot by the creek.  For the rest of the weekend I practiced “Being here now”, enjoying the sacred circle, community meals, sweat lodge, beautiful music and songs, and my own deep communion with Spirit.

I hold the lesson of the rattlesnake in very high regard and think of her often when I succumb to worry or frustration.

  • How much time do you waste on worry?
  • How much time do you waste on making up negative stories?
  • Have there been times you missed the sacred moment because your focus was elsewhere?
  • What are sacred moments for you?
  • How can you have more sacred moments?
  • What can you use to remind you to be here now?
  • If only for today, how can you BE HERE NOW?
  • I invite you to gift yourself at least one sacred moment or minute or hour per day.  YOU DESERVE IT!  Spirit lives to gift you sacred moments every day!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWhen I was first working with Mamacita she told me one day that I should get a silver travel trailer and travel around the country. I actually contemplated this for a couple of weeks…what the heck could she be thinking? I don’t even particularly like to travel, at least not that kind of travel. I like to immerse myself in a community, get to know the people, walk the streets, explore, eat local food, stay in one place for a couple of weeks. But travel around from place to place with not only myself but a large dog and cat in a silver bullet? I just wasn’t seeing this possibility.

I relayed this story to another psychic, her reply was, “oh Mamacita is a trickster!” “A trickster?”, I asked. “Why would Mamacita play tricks on me?” I was absolutely shocked that Mamacita would do this to me. My spirit guide would try to trick me. What?? I didn’t understand how she could do that.  Couldn’t I trust her above all? What I later realized through counseling with Mamacita was that she wanted me to learn how to discern what MY truth was, no matter who told me to do something. She taught me to discern between my hearts true desire and someone else’s agenda. She taught me to discern between what fit’s my vision and when my ego needed to be stroked or inflated.

This would serve me well in later years when I was asked to work with a client who clearly needed a therapist, not a coach. My ego self was just sure I could help – that I could “save” this woman. Number one rule in my business – I don’t “save” anyone. Spirit works through me to guide people to their own answers, with questions and sometimes wise suggestions. But it’s not me – it’s my higher self – connecting with their higher self.  As soon as I fall into the savior trap I know I’m in ego and it’s time to back away! This then was another clear indication of a trickster moment, only this time the trickster was my ego. Another test, thankfully I passed.

Where or when in your life do you get fooled by your ego self? When do you feel challenged to stand in your Truth?

Often when I make a decision coming from ego, it is fraught with fear…fear is the root cause, and consequently it will usually end badly one way or another. Recently I allowed a woman who called late morning on a Sunday to make an appointment for that afternoon because she was only in town for the day from Phoenix. This clearly does not fit my vision as I have chosen NOT to work on Sundays. Instead of asking the proper questions my ego asked, What if she decides to become a coaching client and wants to work with me long term? Wouldn’t it behoove me to work with her just this one Sunday? So I rearranged my day, sent my husband away, put the animals in their respective rooms and waited for the client. Ten minutes before she was scheduled to show up the phone rang, she was canceling!

When I disrespect myself and my vision, I attract people who disrespect me. This decision clearly came from fear, I’m building a new business, therefore sometimes I think I must do anything and everything to make that happen, even when it goes against my truth/my vision. It may seem like a small waver to work on a Sunday and sometimes it is justifiable if I’m working with a client who respects me and my time. But I knew almost immediately that this wasn’t going to happen. Everything about it felt forced!

Here are some questions to ask yourself when you are trying to make a decision:

  • Does this serve my higher purpose?
  • Does this fit my vision? (if you don’t have a vision, that may be the first step)
  • Am I coming from heart or from ego?
  • Will this bring me joy? Peace? Satisfaction?
  • Does it serve the community, my clients, the world?
  • Am I forcing it?

Mamacita would tell you to go within and ask – that you and only you have the answer. Trust your inner knowing. If your decision doesn’t “feel” right, if you feel like you’re forcing it, then you probably need to step back.  Stop, take a look at your answers above and really check in with your heart self to find the truth.

Your true answer is found within!

Rain beat down my windshield, and red mud splattered  my car as I drove through Monument Valley in October of 2009.   The road was muddy but passable.  The thought of returning to my campsite was daunting.  It was a cold, hard rain, and I had myself and a large wet dog to care for.

Suddenly I was sobbing, I pulled off the road and I heard Mamacita (my spirit guide) say to me, “You don’t have to do it alone anymore.  All your life you have done it alone, even when in a relationship you were alone.  You always kept something back.  It’s time now…it’s time.”

I had gone to Monument Valley with my dog, Cheyenne, a tent, sleeping bag, small cook stove, lantern and other basic supplies.  I was prepared to stay twelve days, on a trip I had anticipated for months.  I knew something waited in Monument Valley, I just wasn’t sure what that something was.  While it was gorgeous during the day (sans the rain) at night it was colder than a well digger’s ass in January!  Thankfully I had brought along a down comforter, which became my sleeping pad. Cheyenne gave me a look like only a dog can, one that said, “I love you Mom, but what were you thinking?”

I had bet my friend Jim $200.00 that I would make it the full twelve days.  He insisted that I could survive the camping,  but I would miss André too much and come home.  It wasn’t so much a case of missing André, it was that I wanted to be with him and I knew in that moment through the tears, through the pain of aloneness that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him.  I surrendered to love.

What I know for you is that you don’t have to do it alone anymore either.  The Truth is you are never alone, however, some days it’s hard to remember there is a loving, abundant, infinite, wise source larger than you.  Of course this source is always available, but when you are in the middle of the tsunami, or drowning in a black hole, Source seems a long, long way off.

So you beg, you plead and bargain…”dear God if you will just ____________________ I will ___________________.  Occasionally this seems to work (hopefully you express your gratitude)  until the next desperate moment. The Truth is you are not alone-EVER! Source is always there of course and so are other people!  And those other people are searching for you, to connect-to create-to grow through love.   ‘Cause when we get down to the core, love is what it’s all about, isn’t it?  Love – in the form of friends, family, even strangers who step up and help each other, even those in Spirit world.

After my recent women’s retreat I did a reading for my new friend Trish.  Her husband Aron who had died two years ago, came through to talk to her.  I’ll let Trish’s words tell the rest of the story:

“During BakeR’s reading, Aron gave me a huge bouquet of yellow daisies.  Didn’t mean anything significant to me.  Then I visited Aron’s marker at the National Cemetery for Veteran’s Day.  Yep, in front of his marker, at least 24 bushes in full bloom, of . . . yellow daisies.”  –Trish

This story gave me goose bumps and tears, and it reminded me how un-alone we truly are.  Most people are not aware how many of their loved ones who have crossed over are still with them.  You are never alone!

Remember if you are feeling alone, or if you’re living in pain, worry, frustration, anger or sadness, there is someone else who is feeling the same way.  There are a myriad of ways to connect with them…find your support group whether it be one or forty four.

  •      Search the newspaper for a list of groups and ongoing events. GET UP AND GO!
  •      Check out Yahoo groups
  •      Go to a church, synagogue, temple, ashram etc. and connect with like minded people
  •      Create a prayer group or just find a prayer partner
  •      Talk honestly with your significant other, a family member or friend – tell them how you’re feeling
  •      Help someone else-just listen…this will return ten-fold.

Let me introduce myself…

Baker-Gendron-Psychic-Coach-200x300My name is BakeR, The Psychic Life Coach. I am a Spiritual Life Coach, Workshop Facilitator and Psychic Medium here in gorgeous red rock country, Sedona, Arizona.

It seems that all my life I have colored outside the lines — sometimes it’s fun and sometimes it’s scary. This is why I can attune to your needs; I have been there and back!  I too have had those days when I wondered who I was, where I was going and what it all means anyway.  I have felt the pain and the ecstasy.

Just prior to turning 40, when my partner was dying of lung cancer I started having flashbacks of being raped.  At first it was flashbacks of being raped by two men, which I consciously remembered as being beaten up by them, but not raped.  But then I was having flashbacks of my father’s sexual abuse.  I had done a great job of disassociating as a child and again as an adult…going out of body to escape the horror of what was going on.

Ten years of intense therapy ranging from psychodrama to holistic breath-work to traditional therapy ensued.  Along this path I came to the freedom of forgiveness — for myself, my father and even for the men who raped me.  I learned that anger and rage kept me the victim.  Removing the anger was like cutting out a tumor that was eating me alive…Love was the answer, self-love first and foremost, then love for others.

This gave me compassion and an incredible insight into people’s inner worlds. I can help you go into the dark and bring forth the light.  And, if your world is already light, wouldn’t you like to create more?  I would like you to experience and open to deep abiding love for yourself and others, to know the profound freedom and joy that come from this Love.  Together we can shape-shift your world and create a new paradigm!

I work with you through intuitive work, spiritual life coaching, and empowering workshops.

You bring your willingness to open and expand on all levels, your inner wisdom and creativity and most of all your desire to move forward!

Now I would like to gently yet firmly help guide you to a rich, vibrant life!

Many blessings!
