Love Your Guides!

Have you ever gone to an enlightening and illuminating spiritual retreat where you felt completely connected to your guides, angels and animal totems? Where you experienced visions or intense feelings, heard voices or experienced Kundalini awakenings? But then you went home and you wondered why the angels, guides and totems deserted you. Where the heck did they go? Why were you so connected at the retreat but not at home?

At the retreat you opened up to the energies and played in the mystical realm. You rode the wave of expansion created by the synchronistic energy of a group of people coming together to learn, experience and practice new skills, creating an intense level of awareness. Your focus and energy were completely centered on learning these new skills; there were no distractions. But alas you had to go home, chop wood, carry water, pay bills, cook, clean and maybe even find time to work your day job.

Well that’s just great, but how can you create the same connection with your guides at home?

Practice, practice, practice. Yes, practice your connection. Create time to spend with your guides. Like a relationship with a good friend (which they are) you must nurture that relationship. The more you connect with them, the more you will learn from them and the easier it will be to connect. If you can carve out time for a Starbucks coffee, or to watch the latest series on Netflix you can make time to work with your guides. Find ten minutes (longer if possible) a day to sit in quiet and invite them in.

Create a sacred space – A small altar with a candle, crystals, rocks, feathers, icons, any items that help you create the mood to sit quietly and connect. It might be just a special chair in the corner by a sunny window. This is where you sit when your intention is to connect with spirits, guides, animal totems, fairies, or angels. It is your own private vortex, where the energy feels right.

When I’m doing private readings at home I sit in my red rocker instead of at my desk. I can connect with my guides when I’m sitting at my desk, but the rocker feels better. A bead and feather dance necklace from Peru decorates the wall, a brass Buddha that’s been with me for forty plus years sits amongst labradorite, spirit stone, clear quartz, selenite, rocks, shells and a crow wing that I found at West Fork trail head. My grandmothers yarn basket with a few small balls of yarn sits at my feet. These things move and are replaced at will but the space always feels just right. It’s my special place to talk with my earthly and spiritual friends. Some days I play music other days I don’t. There are no particular items you should or must include in your sacred space, use the items that help you feel a connection with spirit world. It can be completely barren white walls if that is what calls to you.

Your guides are friends; treat them as such. Call on them in good times and bad. Send gratitude for the light they bring to your life, ask them to intervene, to play the muse, to walk with you, to laugh with you, to create with you.

Like friends, the guides love to hear from you. When they know they are important to you they will share guidance and information. Don’t always expect big flashy fireworks, loud voices or a knock on the head. Their presence is usually more like a chill up your spine, hair raising goose bumps on your arms, a quiet whispering “why don’t you try that path”, knowing the correct street to turn on, that old song on the radio that speaks to you, or a friend calling at exactly the moment you thought of them.
.
Trust these subtle gifts, your guides are touching you, talking to you or maybe sending your human friend to help. Remember too that we all connect with different “clairs”, you may be clairaudient, clairvoyant, clairsentient, clairgustant, clairtangent, clairscent or a combination of some or all of these. Get quiet – remove all the distractions, silence or turn off the phone, close the computer screen and listen or feel. Be aware of the subtle ways they communicate and encourage them, let them know you hear/feel/see them

You will find that when your guides really want your attention they will demand it in not so subtle ways. Once I asked whether it was for my highest and best good to continue in a primary relationship. I said, “if the answer is yes I want to see two ravens fly over, if the answer is no, just one raven should fly over.” Standing on a mountain in southern Arizona where ravens are numerous, I knew this was possible. As I sat and meditated a lone raven flew over and did a spiral dance right over my head. In my infinite wisdom I decided that was a coincidence. Yeah right, a raven doing a spiral dance right over my head was a coincidence! I was really resisting this answer and my ego gave me a perfect rationalization.

The story gets better, as I drove home I saw a lone raven fly off a tree on the left side of the road; he landed in the middle of the road right in front of my car and strutted around like he was king of the road. Needless to say, I had to stop and watch this little parade or slaughter the king.
IMG_0497-300x200-ravenBut my guides still weren’t done with me. Around a half mile later another raven flew from the right side of the road and again landed on the road in front of my car, looking right at me. Wow, really? Granted I was only going about 25 MPH on this long dirt road, but never in my life had a glossy black raven landed on the road in front of my car. It took me another year or so to end the relationship (back then I was a slow learner) but I’ve never forgotten those stunning ravens. By the way, I knew it was time to end the relationship, this was just a very strong confirmation that I needed to take the necessary steps. I stopped that day and gave thanks for the guidance, but as always I had free will to follow through or not.
Your guides are there for you always, in all ways. Do you want to spend time with them? Then just do it. Get quiet, go in and invite them to be with you. Thank them for their time and send love and light back to them.

May your days be filled with love, guidance and connection with your spiritual friends,

Shaman's Cave

Here’s a little video to inspire you:

Sometimes 240 degrees is enough!

And if you prefer to read it here’s the text:

I climbed Thorny Butte today! “Why does that deserve an exclamation mark?”, you might ask. Because, I’ve tried to climb it before and found it an almost impermeable forest of cacti and underbrush, hence the name I gave it, Thorny Butte. Yet I know that amongst the cacti are beautiful flowers, some orangey ones sprouting from the prickliest prickly pear, tiny purple and yellow ones growing right up between the spines and tall pale pink  tubular flowers under a scrubby tree. The flowers found their way, so could I.

Today I approached from the right side off an old jeep trail. There it was, a path I hadn’t noticed before, someone had gone before me cutting a path through the rock and brush. It didn’t always look like I expected it to look…there were times today when my path cut through undergrowth and over rocks, but it was still there.

There were times I thought I had lost it, but then it would appear, faintly pointing the direction I needed to go. I often questioned if I should follow the path, I was alone and  it was steep, but I asked my guides, I  listened and knew that I was safe. I trusted my inner guidance to lead me in the right direction as much as I trusted the path.

The last five feet were impenetrable, I couldn’t actually get to the top without forcing my way and I didn’t have the proper tools to make it. The view was still breathtaking even five feet from the top, I couldn’t see 360 degrees but sometimes 240 is enough!

  • Don’t give up, keep looking for your path, it may be around the next bend.
  • It’s okay to follow in another’s footsteps if you can’t find the way.
  • Don’t forget what goes up has to come down, save some energy for the descent.
  • Trust your inner GPS.
  • Be grateful for those who came before!

Today I found myself worrying about compensation.  Actually my ego self was worried.  Am I enough – will I make enough?  Was the reading good – good enough?

My ego self says, “show me the money”, as if that is the only way to measure my self worth.  My spiritual self  is always certain that indeed I am enough – I AM good enough.  I am always fully supported.  My ego needs the compliments and glowing emails that clients send.  My ego is fear based it needs to be fed.  My spiritual self feels the deep connection in the moment and knows that the true gift is leading a client to understanding, helping them  hear the Truth, or maybe connect with a loved one on the other side.  My spiritual self  is Love.

While I was in worry, all I could see was more fear.  When Mamacita stepped in and slapped me around a little I was able to turn my self to the Truth, to see the light and to focus on my good.  As I refocused on my service, 0n my joy in being of service and why I am really here, the phone rang – a client booking a session for tomorrow – of course!

Keeping my focus on gratitude and being of service empowers me and ultimately you.  As I step into grace it radiates out and touches all those around me.  When you step into grace, into gratitude it radiates out and touches all those around you!

Are you out of touch with your Truth?  Out of balance?  How much time do you spend in fear or worry?

How much time do you spend in gratitude, service or joy?

Do you think to be grateful for all you are?

Are you grateful for your body? For the utensils that allow you to eat? For the chair you sit in?  For a computer that workd with no expectation of thanks?

Take a moment now to sit in gratitude – find at least five things that you don’t normally think to be grateful for:

  • Shoes
  • The cardinals song
  • The men working in the hot sun on the electrical lines down my street
  • Healers – especially chiropractors today!
  • Can openers

Your Turn:

Make a commitment to yourself to practice gratitude throughout your day…it is the single most important step to changing your life!

Angel Valley Garden of Transformation

Whatcha gonna do with the 36 cents sticky with coke on your floorboard?

When a woman on the street is huddled in the cold on a sidewalk vent trying to keep warm.

Do you call her over, hand her the change, ask her story, ask her name

Or do you tell yourself, you’re just a fool, a fool to believe you can change the world…

             –Carrie Underwood

The other night André, my wonderful husband, reminded me that when I heal myself – I heal the world.  Yep, you see I/we believe that God/Spirit/Love, whatever you call the Universal essence is all there is.  Therefore, if Spirit is all there is, then it follows that we are Spirit – right here, right now manifesting in physical form.  When we heal ourselves, that healing spirals out in big waves of love and heals all that it touches.

A fine example of this type of healing is being done October 8th at Angel Valley Retreat Center.

Angel Valley is where James Ray held his now infamous retreat last October which concluded with a sweat lodge.  Yes, that sweat lodge! The sweat lodge that ended in tragedy for the families and friends of the three people who transitioned that night.

Michael and Amayra Hamilton the owners of Angel Valley have chosen to create a beautiful, sacred space, a memorial to honor those who passed a year ago.   Above is a picture of the beautiful heart that was created from the river rocks  used in the sweat lodge ceremony.  Large crystals represent those who passed, surrounded by those who have known and loved them. Trees have been planted to symbolize new life.

Here is part of Angel Valley’s invitation:

At the same time we want to focus on how we make the next step. We have learned from the experience. We have grown. For many it has been a process of tremendous transformation, of getting a deeper understanding about life and death and a more profound appreciation for the preciousness of life. Therefore the ceremony will be a celebration of life.

On the occasion, what we have so far called the Memorial Site will be officially renamed The Garden of Transformation

I honor Michael and Amayra for what they are doing to heal the energy field, the Earth and the families and friends of Kirby Brown, James Shore and Liz Newman.  I’m not here to judge the people involved or guess why it happened or if it could have been prevented.  I am standing with Angel Valley in moving forward to heal their trauma, to heal all those involved and to heal all people.  They are  moving forward with love, grace and forgiveness.  This Friday, the celebration of life ceremony will include meditation, prayers, poetry and music. All the families, friends and community have been invited.

This is one of those healings that has the potential to heal the planet, shifting the grief and anger to love and forgiveness.  Not running away from the pain, but facing it, owning it and then taking the necessary steps to heal.

Where in your life is there something hanging out that you haven’t healed?

Take a moment to go inside – sit in silence or with quiet music. Ask who or what you need to forgive.  You may be surprised what comes up (I was, when a woman from 20 yrs. ago came up – I thought I was done with that chapter).  Whatever feelings come, allow yourself to be with them. You may experience anger, grief, fear, pain, frustration, disbelief, sadness – just allow yourself to feel it. If need be journal about your pain, let it all out. You can be as vicious as needed, purge it, get it out of you, rip it up and burn it.  Now that you’re done with that – forgive them and forgive yourself.

When faced with this pain you may wonder how you could possibly forgive.  As I told a client yesterday you just do it!  Remember:

When you release the wrongdoer from the wrong, you cut a malignant tumor out of your inner life.

You set a prisoner free, but you discover that the real prisoner was yourself.

–Lewis B. Smedes

The person who wronged you has most likely moved on, maybe not remembering the incident at all.  While you are still held prisoner.

It is your choice now – right now to heal or not.  What’s it going to be?  You really can decide to release this right now.  You really can decide to heal – yourself and the energy field that we all rely on.  Pigs were born to wallow in garbage not you! You are big enough, couragous enough and strong enough to cut that tumor out now.

p.s. Don’t forget to forgive yourself for carrying it this long!  Feel better don’t you????
